Growing Hops in Ontario: Ontario Hop Trial Update

By: Evan Elford – New Crop Specialist | OMAF/MRA | ONspecialtycrops | March 21, 2014

A summary of data collected from the Ontario hop trial was presented in the poster session at the 2014 Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention (OFVC).  The information is a summary of marketing and agronomic data collected during the 2013 growing season. More detailed information for each category of the study will be made available over the coming months, however, growers can click the following link to access a copy of the OFVC_hops poster.  Please note, the agronomic data summarized in the poster is based on the establishment year for the hop yard (replicated study – planted May, 2103 and harvested in August-September, 2013).  Laboratory analysis of hop components is currently underway and will be reported as soon as results are available.  The trial will continue for the 2014 and 2015 growing seasons.  Continued thanks to all project partners and funders (OMAF and MRA New Directions Research Program and field staff, University of Guelph, Loyalist College, Ontario Craft Brewers, Erie Innovation and Commercialization, individual Ontario hop growers (prior to formation of the OHGA)).
